ParticipantI have just replaced a door seal on the above machine but it rubs against the drum to such a degree that the drum fills with smoke when on spin cycle!
I have re-fitted the original and there is a gapbetween the seal and the drum but with the new one there isn’t.
Qualtex have sent me another gasket but it’s exactly the same with that one.
Has anyone else had similar problems.
The two new gaskets look identical to the old one.
Please help!!!
Thanks

Had a look on connect and it shows 2 different seals. Have you got the full model number?

Thanks for the reply AJC_Dave!
I have just looked at Hoover’s own website and they show two different seals that fit this model as well. I will get the full model details tomorrow. It is really frutrating, I took the entire tub out to make sure I had fitted it properly.
For some reason I can’t log on to my Connect account. I will post again tomorrow with full details and than ks againNovember 30, 2012 at 11:21 pm #385630Grendal

Hoover are having a problem with their seals and have no solution at the moment …. been told not to tighten them too much tbh it doesnt help think you will just have to wait until they come up with a solution in about 6 months time 🙁

Hi
Seems to be at least half a dozen of this model so may be best searching by serial no….
I do plenty of these as they seem to have a tendency to split easier that most. Tilted back usually gives enough room to fit. If you want a bit more room, just remove the back panel and the drum will fall further back.

Thanks again Dave and Grendal.
The full model number is OPH714D/2-80 and the sn is 3100306409500068.
I did fit the first new seal with the drum in situ, pretty difficult but managed but took the drum out because I was convinced I must have done something wrong!
I am a bit concerned that I may have to wait six months to fix this machine!
Dave, is there anything I could have done wrong?
The original seal is badly torn but there is a definite gap between the seal and the drum and the tear is at the front of the seal, not where it is near the drum.
The new seals are both very tight to the drum and when the door is shut and the machine is on spin it literally welds itself to the drum!

Hi.. Have had a look at it. I would just order it through connect over the phone if you have no access stating the full model no which should be enough. I’ve fitted a few of these and never had a prob. Won’t be the way you’re fitting it as they are nothing different from the norm. The original part is only a few quid dearer than the pattern so more than worth using.
I think you have been sent the wrong part….December 3, 2012 at 7:47 pm #385634loopey

Just a thought, but have you checked that the drum shaft isn’t broken. I have had this a few times, and it could cause the drum to catch the seal.

Thanks for all the replies chaps, I am very grateful.
I am about to order a new seal and will report back once I’ve tried it.
Nelson, I must admit I did think there might be a problem with the drum protruding too far forward but it appears to be fine and the orginal door seal does fit ok even though it is torn so I am pretty sure it’s just that the new seals I have are not the right ones.
