    Morning All,

We have had our washing machine for a few years now and it has been shrinking ALL of our clothes for ages. (This is not us putting on weight after a good summer :P). It has now just shrunk a table runner which is clearly now too short for the table so its definitely happening.

We have used most settings and low temperatures to eliminate this problem but to no avail.

We are using a cold water feed only to the washing machine.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

The only way that your washing machine can do that is if it is overheating to the degree that it boils everything all the time. I’d doubt that this is happening but it is possible if it is shrinking every single item washed.

Just as important though is what you put in it. 😉

You’d have to look at what the stuff you are getting shrunk is made from and what detergent that you are using as both can do that very easily if not used correctly.

The reason I doubt that the machine is overheating is that, it would either halt and sit looking stupid at you or, display an error code and sit looking stupid at you. In general terms, if a machine completes any cycle then there will almost never be any fault with the machine itself.

Are the clothes coming out hot at end of cycle ? As above if it was overheating it would through up a fault code or boil everything, have you had any plumbing work done where it could have accidentally been plumbed into the hot supply. Sounds stupid but I’ve been called out to faults like this in the past

Is it selecting a 90/60 degree wash when set to 40? Ie wash time longer than usual?
