    I quite often find that just using the carbons and the original holders will get you out of a hole

    Ah, but would you do this Andy?

    ‘Have got it running in the meantime by cleaning the commutator & and freeing up the brushes in the holders, about 5mm of carbon left !’

    Out of interest anyone else had problems with Bosch brushes jamming in the holders. I always file a slight bit off the sides to stop this and on occasions even changed the spring from the original. Not a problem but you’d think they’d fit perfectly 1st time

    It’s the brush locking tab that hasn’t been cleared enough not the brush.
