ParticipantI replace the door seal on a Hoover HOSM6581N single ovenearly December 2021.
I had a call from the owner to say it’s broken.
This is what I found. This is at the bottom in the centre of the door seal. This hasn’t gone at the joint. The rest of the door seal is in the condition you would expect. The rest of the oven appears to be fairly clean.
I suspect this has been caused by a cleaner or other product but I’ve never come across this before. Usually the joints fail or the door seal sags.
Has anyone else seen a door seal go like this in such a short time frame and know what would cause it?
Thanks.July 23, 2022 at 6:52 pm #483102electrofix
ModeratorThis is the unit with an upper and lower element. Think the unit may be made by Samsung
since the oven uses upper and lower elements could the lower one distort and overheat the seal ?

I hadn’t considered that. Worth another look.

DaveThaks Dave, that looks like a good shout.
The element was distorted and touching the front panel of the oven. I’m surprised there were no clips to hold the element i place like most other makes. That’s what you get when you buy cheap!July 27, 2022 at 5:56 pm #483105Twoten
ParticipantReplaced the element today, found the replacement is about 30mm shorter (without taking the distortion into account) bringing the element further away from the front panel reducing.

DaveHaving replaced the base element and door seal 6 months ago, it’s gone yet again.
The door seal is broken in the centre with another slight split to the left. The rubber isn’t hard and brittle like the last time.
I can’t see any reason for this breaking again so wonder if it’s something the user is doing.
Very reluctant to replace it again as I can’t see it lasting more than another 6 months.

Moderatorwell the element was causing some problem last time but cant think how you can damage a seal
all i can suggest is you get the customer to pay for the seal as you cant continue to fund it plus maybe order it direct from hoover so you can complain at them when it fails
