When I rotate the drum on my Hoover PE235 there is stiffness at one point, as though something is trapped between inner and outer.
There are no protruding wires or damage to the inner drum. I removed the heating element but can’t see anything through the hole, so now I want to remove a drum paddle but can’t see how they are fixed. Can anybody help?
Any other suggestions about the cause of the stiffness?

Removing the paddle will not give you access unfortunately. Almost certainly a sock or pair of drawers caught in there. If you place the lens of a torch through the holes you may be able to locate it and use a small screwdriver to drag it toward the heater aperture.

Hi Martin. Many thanks for your replies to both of my posts about this machine: much appreciated.
I’ve now managed to removed the door seal and the drum turns perfectly without it. No stiffness, noise or bearing play. But it is clear that the drum is out of true and that it was rubbing against the rubber seal during each rotation.

PS. I’ve just looked again and in fact the drum diameter is fairly consistent, but if I measure the gap between the rim of the metal inner drum and the rim of the plastic outer drum, it varies between approx. 7mm and 18mm at any given point as the drum is rotated. The only explanation I can think of is that the bearings have moved in their housing or that the shaft on which the drum rotates is bent. Am I correct and is there any remedy apart from a new drum assembly?

Oh dear, the drum support spigot has failed. Typical Candy throw away scenario. Go Beko next time, they are far better in that price range overall.

Thanks again Martin. Out of curiosity, in what way does the support spigot fail? Is it worth stripping it down to see what has happened?

The arms of the spigot corrode and crack. When one of the three cracks the stainless tub is unsupported in that area and consequently the tub goes oval shaped enough to run against the drum at the front. All very common, all very tragic and all not worth bothering with when they go, 🙁
