KeymasterHi all,
I just bought a Hoover Performa 1100 washing machine from a second-hand shop (with a 6 month guarantee). When I put it on my usual cycle (starting at number 4, non-fast coloureds) and start up, everything seems fine. The water jet starts up, takes away the washing powder, but there is hardly any water in the machine (though there is enough to get the clothes wet, but far from soaked). I let the whole cycle proceed and clothes come out barely smelling of any washing powder (Persil non-bio certainly smells nice from the box).
I called the shop, and he said this was normal, it’s an eco/water-saving machine and this is a key feature. He said the rinse cycle should fill up with water. I went back and put it to rinse, it filled up with slightly more water, but there is still no water line on the door (i.e. the water level is so low).
I don’t have any half-wash button etc.
I’m not a washing machine expert, but it sounds like I have a problem, any suggestions/comments welcome, especially so I have more confidence in pushing the shop guy who’s coming this evening, since he seems to be of the attitude that it’s working fine and I just don’t know modern washing machine technology.
Thanks very much

Hi,
The model is an AC110 before I go further.
It seems a similar problem to a post I found earlier here, and similar to that post, my clothes come out smelling very unfresh, almost the same as they had gone in. And like I said before, I get no visible water level on my door.
I stopped the machine during rinse and opened the door after 2 mins, there was about 5cm of water underneath all the clothes at the deepest point.
Thanks for all your help

Most manufacturers today are producing machines with ‘A’ rated energy levels.
In effect this means that the machine uses far less water to wash the clothes. Invariably this means that the wash times take longer to achieve the same wash results.
You should get a slightly higer water level on the rinses.
If your machine ‘A’ rated then you will use a)less detergent b) less water c) less electricity
Sometimes people tend to use far too much detergent for these machines therefore it is a good idea to let it do a 90 0c wash once a month with very little detergent and some old towels in it to keep it free from any build up of residue. HTH.

Hi,
Thanks Del.
So assuming my machine is working correctly and it’s an A-energy rated machine, how do I get a good wash out of it? I usually wash starting from 4 which gives me one wash, 2 rinses and a fast spin.
When you say “longer wash times” do you basically mean I should just keep washing again and again until I’m happy, or is there something else I don’t know?
I don’t usually wash from program 3 because that starts at 60 and usually spills colours. I don’t start from 1 or 2 because I have no clothes that are white-only.
Thanks again.

One wash should be sufficeint for normal soiling, it’s just that the older machines that used to fill up to the bottom of the door glass, used to do a wash in about 40 minuets. where as the newer type ‘A’ rated machines usually take about an hour plus for a 40 degree mixed wash.
There are some new machines that are ‘A’ rated that claim to do a mixed 40 degree wash in 30 minutes but the only thing that they can do effectively is get the laundry wet ! lol

Ahh so its not just me that thought the same then – on mine a 40 wash does take about an hour.
got mine second hand from someone moving house for free!BUT only problem I have is that most of the settings on the front of the machine have faded/worn away – only ones I can read are 3,4 and 11 could someone please be so kind as to list the others for me?
would be very much appreciated – TIA.July 13, 2005 at 10:06 pm #140923admin
