KeymasterHello: I have got a problem with my washer-dryer.
It`s a HOVER Performa 1100/ WA 110.
Was working normally when I heard a snap, (not a loud one) still it continued for a while and then stoped. It was really a trouble to open the door, but I managed it in the end.
The cycle wasn`t finished.
I turn it on, the water goes in ( you can hear it) everything seems normal `till the drum has to go round. It does not.
Is there any way that I can fix it myself, if you can tell me what is the problem, what part to buy and how to install it?.
Thank you.
And do you know how much it will cost me to ask a specialist to fix it, cos if it isnt viable, I might have to buy a new one.February 1, 2005 at 12:53 pm #124783Martin

Most likely is the motor brushes have worn and need replacing. For obvious liability reasons we cannot advise exactly how one can effect such a repair without expert help. The cost to get it fixed however is likely not that costly. Check out our repairs@ section to get and engineer in to advise you further 😉

thnx for your reply Martin.
I did go to repairs but this is the message I got:****{{{{{{No service engineer in your area
We are sorry but at this time we do not have a service engineer listed in your area who can assist you at this time. We have anonymously logged your information in order to improve our coverage for the future.

== = = = = ==Since no engineer is avaiable do you know who can I ask to explain to me how to install the broken part, and how much it will cost me.
thnx again.February 1, 2005 at 1:35 pm #124785Martin

I’m sorry there is no coverage from us in your area 😥
I would recommend you have it checked out at least and perhaps a local repairer can advise you further.
If for example it were just simply a question of replacing the motor brushes, then it could cost you up to no more than around £75 total. Worst case senario to consider (i.e. new Motor) around £110 total.
Hope that helps 🙂

Hi Martin
I Very much appreciate your advice mate.
Since only the brushes will cost me £75 and the expert alone will cost £70 for a house visit in London, then I think I might better go and buy a new washer-dryer.Logically, spending £150-£200 ( if it needs a new motor) it might not be a good investment. When for less than £400, I can get a new one.
Sincerely I belived that I might fix it myself, but I cant.
So I am off to Johns Levis now.
If any of you guys reading this, needs my washer dryer (for any reason) you can get it for free, just ask.
Kind regards etc…

IMAO@Martin
I missunderstood you pal.lol.Still I think I am going to buy a new one, can you advise a good reliable, particular mark. Able to cope with the loads coming from 2 small children (4&7 y/o) .
Since you deal with many questions from different models, I am sure you will know a reliable machine. Thnx Martin.

BOSCH or SIEMENS and you will solve your problems. Don’t ask me which models, just go MID-RANGE and you’ll be all set my friend 😉
Happy Washdays!!!!!!

I will buy as you said Martin, I am off to John Lewis to buy a mid-range one. Also I will tell you what model did I buy.
Hope it will not be to much to ask, if you will be a “god-father” to my new washer – dryer.
On a more serious note I wanna thank you Martin; and all the other guys that give free advice to anyone of us. It is really a great and helpful place to visit for any domestic advice.
