Hoover Randomly Wont Start Program

Hi All,

I’m new to the forum but not new to the trade, I used to repair domestic appliance PCB’s for quite a few years at my old job, Now i have switched fields and I’m well out of touch and require some advice!

Our machine at home is a Hoover DXC E48AW3, I’m not fond of the brand but we received it as a gift when we moved into our first home so wasn’t going to complain. Anyway, We have encountered a strange problem with it over the past few months gradually getting worse. The program we tend to use for daily washing is a ‘All in one 59’ Its 1000rpm, 40 degrees in 59 minutes. The program can be selected just fine by the selector dial and it shows its selected on the fascia by displaying “59” BUT the damn thing wont start! You can press the button 100 times to no avail, swap it to ‘rapid 30’ and it’ll start first push! However, if you turn the machine off for 10 minutes and come back, it’ll sometimes start?

Does anyone have any clue?

I would check the door lock first. the first thing most machines do is lock the door but normally if left long enough a fault code comes up

Thanks for the response, door lock was the first thought in my head too, but because the machine doesn’t fail to start if it’s in a quick wash program I’d assume the door lock was perfectly fine.

really odd because I cant think of anything different in the other programmes that would stop it starting
