I hope that maybe someone could help me with a problem I have got with the above washing machine. I am relatively new to this game, i have recentley completed my training. I have been servicing washing machines succesfully up until now! I have got a problem in that as the washing machine starts to spin, it makes a loud banging noise, the whole tub is basically shaking and banging against various other parts of the machine. I have checked changed the dampers as they were in a bad state but although the noise is now not so bad it is still banging. As I said it is only on the main spin, the pre spin is fine, it is obviously when it is in full flow that it generates the movement. iF I actually grab the tub from the back and push it back and forth it seams very easy to do so, in that their is a lot of play ……………….. can anyone help?

Cracked drum support? Poor drain? Dodgey speed control?

Is it on wooden floorboards? These can be a problem if they’re bouncy.
If the dampers were “in a bad state” then the customer may have been tolerating the condition for some time. Has s/he said as much? Always get as much info from them as you can before you start.

Hi all, thanks for the help. The machine is actually my mum,s. This has been happening for a while, she did have an engineer out around 2 months ago but he couldnt fix it. She now tends to just stop the spin when it starts. I decided to have a crack at it for her, thought it would be more good experience for me. Up until now i have had a 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} success rate so a kick in the teeth was inevitable eventually!

The machine is on vinyl flooring, i have checked the level etc. The main banging and vibrating is at the bottom of the tub, you can hear it knocking against what is probably the front panel.

Simon46 sounds like he`s hit the nail on the head. Check the concrete block on the front bottom of the drum. The bolts had a tendency to snap.

Might be one of those where the concrete is bolted to the plastic drum front plate and the mountings break. Nice bit of experience for when you’ve got a few hours to spare 🙂 (Worst case scenario-Hoover cover parts only on most machines under 5 y.o. but you have to pay a hefty call out/labour charge). Nah, take your time, make some space in the kitchen and get on with it.
One last thought- you’ve checked the tacho coil?

Just had similar problem on Hoover auto.Changed dampers but still knocking then noticed black powder traces on inside cabinet.Concrete block seemed solid but retaining bolts nipped up half a turn.Result silent spin!!
