Hoover SC 186

I have just stripped and rebuilt my old Hoover SC 186 however when switiching it on I find it does not have that much suction I also find that the small gauge on top is no longer working .

When I rebuilt the hoover I did not connect up the small rubber pipe coming from the speed controller , Does this rubber pipe need to be connected if so Where ?.

Due to its age I can find nothing on the internet so was wondering if any one here might know .

the rubber tube is probably a bag full indicator. if so you will be losing suction unless its blocked or connected

Thanks Dave yes I stripped it down again and found the small pipe fitting on the side so reconnected it . The suction is much better now however the small gauge still does not show any reading where as before if you put your hand over the pipe the level would move now there is nothing .
