Firstly I know I’ve posted about this washing machine before (soap tray drain pipe blocking up), but I couldn’t find any trace of my old account, weird….

Anyway, onto the Hoover WM, 1st sign of problems was the cycle stopped part way and the 1st ‘Washing progress’ LED would flash 3 times along with (I think) the superwash LED below it (I always turn on super wash now). Today was the 2nd time in a row it’s happened.
Googling it, showed that for Hoover 3 flashes means pump drain problem or pressure switch (couldn’t find anything about error codes for it here strangely).

After draining it, I removed the filter and found nothing blocking the impeller inside, and the impeller turned ok.
1st time it happened it was near the end of the cycle so I didn’t do anything more. This time round I choose the drain program and the moment I started it I heard a loud buzz from the drain pump, which I know (from my Scalextrix days 😉 and being a mechanic) that is the motor jammed. I gave it a thump and it started running 🙂 (thank god I didn’t have to manually drain the drum!). I then ran another wash cycle but it failed again with the same flash code.
On running the drain program again, again the pump was jammed and a thump got it going.

Now I know on cars when you have an electric fuel pump behave this way it just means it’s shot (probably worn out brushes?), I’m guessing it’s the same for the drain pump on my WM? Unless someone knows of a common easy to fix fault that could cause the same symptoms? (remembering that I’ve checked that the filter is clear).

If it’s high likely to be just the pump, then I’m just going to get shot of it, it’s old and also has a damaged drum casing (the previous owner somehow got a key to poke out through the outer drum casing! lol Amazingly it only leaks a tiny amount of water). Anyway, that and it blocks up the soap drain pipe if you use powders means I’m fed up with it anyway.

The 2nd question. If the consensus is a drain pump, does anyone want the WM for spares or repairs??

these pumps wear with age and become intermittant so your very possibly on the right lines

as for your old account, we changed programme so account might be still there but we all had to reset passwords

    Ok thanks.

Re old account, it didn’t recognise my email address, I only use 1 for everything ( bar Google), so it seems my account has vanished.
