Hi, the belt in my tumble dryer snapped recently. I have bought a replacement, which is the same length as the one i took off, but which ever way i put the belt on the machine, it is always too slack. The belt goes round the drum and around the motor’s pulley. There are two tensioning pulleys next to the motor which are pulled together by a spring. The belt goes around the inside of these two pulleys but the spring is physically too big for the pulley arms to be able to pull close enough to tension the belt.
I would be grateful if anybody has got any ideas about this or has got a diagram of how the belt should be fitted. Because the belt was already broken, i didn’t see how the belt and the tensioners were set up when it was working so it may be that i haven’t put it all together correctly.

    Thanks

One tensioner bracket slots into the motor fixing bracket, whilst the other sits into a slot in the baseplate. From memory I think there are 2 slots in the base and take care to put in in the correct slot? (Usually the correct slot shows signs of wear & tear anyway) The motor drive pulley central to these with the belt running between the three pulleys tensioned by the spring. 😉

    Hi Martin,

Thank you very much for the information. I didn’t realise that there was a slot on the motor bracket and thought that both pulleys fitted into the base plate. I have fitted it as you described and it is now working perfectly again. 😀

    Thanks
    Mike
