Hoover TV30 dryer trips fuse

For some time (3 years) this dryer has been sat doing nothing but a new baby is on the way and I feel it could be useful again. The last time I tried to use it, it tripped the fuse at the consumer unit and beforehand I thought it had sounded as though the bearings were going – there was a nasty noise and that went on for some months of use.
If it is the bearings is it worth repairing? Either by myself or someone else? When I say worth, I mean is it possible to repair economically. I like to keep things going and am not bothered about the trouble as I have more time than cash.

Hmmmmm?……depends on the state of it and you won’t know that until you have removed the drum. Fixable? yes, costly? maybe, bodge it with sticky back plastic? any things possible. Would I bother?……not bl&&dy likely!:wink:

I suppose I wanted to know if there is a common cause for throwing the trip switch. I thought the two were probably connected, a noise over several months of use followed by the electrical fault. If anyone has any ideas as to what might be going on I’d be interested to know so I can decide what to do next.
The machine looks great cosmetically, and it’s been unused for 3 years and not quite as aged as the model number would suggest. I just haven’t had a good reason to sort it out until now.

Remove the side cover. Try running it,without the side cover. I had a similar scenario somewhere else. That noise is usually from the jockey wheel(big black pulley around which the belt rotates). Usually the friction to the movement of the pulley causes the motor to come across huge resistance and it trips the electrics. To be sure try undoing the belt and run the machine without rotating the drum(take off the belt from the pulley) and if it doesnt trips the electrics then most likely thats the cause.

Side cover, off a Hoover dryer??? 99.9{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time a seized drum or pulley would lead to belt damage, it would rarely, if ever trip the fuse or rcd.
