Please can somebody give me information about a fault that my tumble dryer has developed.

As you look into the drum, there is a circular piece of metal that looks like it keeps the drum in place – this has come away leaving a jagged hole and means that my tumble dryer now requires a whole new drum unit.

As my tumble dryer is only two years old and has had sporadic usage – only during wet weather and about 4 loads a week i am struggling to understand how this has happened and have not been able to find any instances of this happening to anybody else either on the net or from Hoover.

Hoover want me to pay £80 labour charge – which I am more than willing to pay but I would like to know why it happened, (they don’t seem to know or are unwilling to tell me).

    Any advice gratefully received

    Siane,

Your machine will have suffered a common failure in that the rear drum shaft and support have collapsed 🙁

It will need a Drum Bearing Support Kit fitting (Part No: 97922496 – cost around £55 ish I think?) available from our shop@ in the navigation bar.

The usual total cost of such a repair (using independants like us 😉 ) would be around £100

    Hope that helps

The repair man from Hoover that came this morning is ordering a whole new drum as the hole in the back of the drum is really big, roughly 10 cm in diameter.
Would what you have suggested fix this?

It is now I’ve added it rather quickly after Martin’s post as it wasn’t in the shop until about 3 minutes ago.
