ParticipantHello there,
We have a Hoover Vision VHD 814, and it’s just stopped working.
It’s plugged in, all the led’s work, so it’s getting power at least. Water input is fine, drain is not blocked.
But whatever programme is selected, even rinse, drain or spin, it does nothing. Doesn’t fill, only locks the door.
Then the 1200 light and timer saver lights flash seven times, and stop. Then repeat.
Any help appreciated!

Participant2 different types, depending on serial number
error 7 is.. (again depending on variant)
Jammed Motor’s Rotor and/or Wiring
OR
Defective Door Safety Lock Device (blocked closed) and/or Wiring
its worth checking the motor

Waiting for Hubby to get home to check out the things you have suggested.
Thank you for your time,

Ok, here’s an update. Left it alone for a day, then tried a spin. The drum started moving, but with lots of arcing from the motor, lots of crackling and lots of blue light.
So is this the motor, or the brushes? Can it be fixed, or does the motor need replacing?
As ever, all help appreciated.

If it’s arcing, it’s almost certainly the brushes. There are motors from 4 different manufacturers fitted to this machine, so a rummage through THESE should find you appropriate replacements.
Remove the current ones to see if they are down to a few millimetres first – if there is plenty of carbon brush left, the motor is cooking and it all starts to get expensive.
Power off first.

Hi, We have replaced the carbon brushes, the old one’s just had a couple of mil left on them. Thank you very much for your help.
After installing them the motor is very noisy. Do the brushes need to bed in?
Thanks again.

The motor goes zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz as it spins. The old brushes were curved to match the armature, the new ones are square. Just wondered if they need a bit of time to bed in and take on the curve of the armature.
But I’m just glad it’s working again.

Just like Mr. MacHenry’s tricycle from the Magic Roundabout?
They’ll bed down over a couple of washes – make the first wash a light load.

I’m sure it’s getting better the more washes we do.
A BIG THANK YOU for all the help received, and thanks again for this forum, it’s excellent.
Saved us a huge bill, even though, out of the five different motors they fitted to my model, our one had the most expensive brushes! Isn’t that always the case? We’re still quids in though.
