ParticipantReported: no spin following, “three years heavy use”.
💡 Brush job?Oh noooo…
9kg machine – looks same size as a 6kg. 3 phase induction motor, enormous black heatsink with what looks like a 1980’s hifi amplifier module bolted to it, (srp £285 @Connect) two ribbon cables coming down from the 50p worth of user interface upstairs (srp£59 @Connect). Also a red plastic brick next to module which has something to do with smoothing I think (milliHenrys were mentioned on the label). Was reminded of those diabolical digital Hoover machines of 15(?)years ago – thankfully all now gone to washing machine paradise.
Anyway, this one was turning OK on about one turn out of three. The other two (or so) turns it would kick for about half a second, then give up. That was with a half load. Was completely unpredictable and not in any one direction or sequence. Everything looked perfect. Megger showed about 150Megs whole m/c. Heater seemed fine. Motor was reading same on all three coils; IIRC was 44 ohms all round. Tacho was something like 152K or might have been 152R. No loose feel around magnet area. All connections given a squeeze.
Noticed sticker on front, “free 5 year parts guarantee”. Suggested he find out what the deal is on that. Hopefully Hoover agent can come round with all parts on board and swop things in and out till sorted. At least that’s how I imagine these professionals work. Made sure to leave no trace of my visit 😉 . Put it on a spin before leaving and it went through OK. (Had failed to spin on previous go.) Was wondering whether this kick/not turn might be some sort of normal way of working 😕 ❓ .
