ParticipantGood evening all,
I have been called to the above m/c next week with a problem of the dryer TOC activating regularly.
I visited three months ago for a no heat fault, and re-set the above.
However, the m/c is now activating the TOC regularly, and the customer has been re-setting it.
As I’ve not got much experience in this area I intend: Inspecting and cleaning the condensor unit, and inspecting and cleaning the associated piping/ducting of the heating circuit.
Should one be looking at other items too?
The m/c is only a couple of years old.
Thank you,
Jon

I don’t know the particular machine that you are talking about but I would be checking the temperature sensors carefully and the wiring to them.

Also check that the fan blade doesn’t jam up after 10 minutes. A very common problem that will cause the TOC to trip. The fan will work fine for a bit then you can hear a slight scraping noise as the blade starts to touch the heater box, then it just stops, overheats and trips. When the engineer goes out, it’s all cooled down and nice and free

Have now visited this appliance earlier today.
Tested/monitored operation – didn’t activate TOC/Safety ‘Stat
initially. However, customer let me know the first load is usually fine, but TOC activates on second load.
Ran a 30 minute drying cycle on high heat setting… no fault.
Electrically tested TOC’s, Thermistor and fan motor, which gave good Ohms readings.
However, during this period the TOC had activated itself!
Suspect weak TOC and/or Thermistor.
Is there anything else one should be checking, as operation fine otherwise?

There is a modification by Hoover on this appliance where the safety stats were replaced with one at 180oC instead of 160oC to avoid nuisance tripping.
