ParticipantHi, can anybody help me with an error code 8 problem on my Hoover Vision HD 944HD.
I have removed the motor and checked the brushes, they are fine and I stuck an ohm meter across the tacho and got around 170 Ohms. I then switched the meter to volts and span the motor by hand and was getting a couple of volts output from the tacho so I think this is working fine. The motor appears to be looking for the tacho feedback as it ramps up speed quickly then cuts out as if it has not seen the feedback. Dos anybody have a cct diagram so I can check where the feedback goes to and what controls the motor speed?
Or any further diagnostic checks that can point me in the right direction

I have done some further research and managed to get a schematic, it seems that the tacho feedback goes to the main board on DT1 And DT2 and there are 4 wires that go back to the DC motor board – dca-,dc+,dca+ and dc-. Any idea where the speed control comes from? Is it through the dc motor board which supplies the field or through the armature (brushes) which come from the main board.
Any input would be welcome

I’m not familiar with the model but I’d expect the speed to be controlled by the inverter PCB and only signals on what to do sent by the control PCB.
The tacho is where to look and the resistances are here:

Thanks for the reply, but I checked the Tacho and it is a sole and resistance is 184 Ohms, I also checked the output and got a couple of volts spinning it by hand. I am a competent electrical engineer and was wondering what signals to look for on the inverter board. I normally work on CNC machine tools so I am expecting an analogue signal with feedback, but which is which?

No idea as, you’ve now got as much info as we usually get if you’ve got the tacho coil resistance and a schematic, the rest you have to work out I’m afraid.

Just to help others with this problem I have finally cracked it. As per the help posted I checked the tacho and it was fine. I traced the wiring back to the main cct board and checked the signal there which was OK as well. On removing the main cct board I found corrosion on the back of the board which had eaten away one of the tracks going away from the tacho connection so I soldered a wire from the connection to the next point on the board and hey presto machine working again.
Thanks for the help All
