ParticipantMy machine won’t spin. It gets to the spin cycle, pumps out and then stops, showing E09. The Manual just says cancel the programme and start again, which just produces the same result. Any ideas?

What follows is what I think is where the problem lies and is NOT necessarily 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} correct and is only based on my experience with a similar model to yours 3 months ago. 09 fault code is usually a component in the printed circuit board that has blown but….it probably won`t be visually obvious to make matters worse! The machine I had which was a vhd862-80 was fitted with a Sole (that is the make of this motor)brush motor and threw up code 09 having leaped up and banged about- basically there is no speed control and the machine was tumbling fast on rinses-could have been on wash cycle but makes no odds-…However before being panic stricken that the board had gone I thought I`d have a look at the tacho generator- this is the coil within a silver grey metal housing on the back of the motor that is a push fit in to the motor with 2 wires that lead to the motor block-there are often issues with a Sole type motor design is that this coil becomes lose and either falls off the motor, which is obvious when you look, or the magnet which is enclosed by the tacho coil unscrews but has enough space between the 2 to fall out of the motors armature and is not visually obvious though sometimes it can push the coil backwards giving the same result- Zanussi machines were famed for it as they used the same make of motor…. in theory both of these should by rights give a different fault code being 08. But this was not the case with the one I repaired so check, with the power off please, this motor tacho business first. Make sure that the tacho coil is pushed fully in to the motor as far as you can press it in, if you want to see the magnet first to check this you can very carefully lever off the tacho out of the motor but be very careful not to damage it as it is not a separate part you can buy without buying a new motor complete. What happened to my customers was the tacho coil had fallen off the motor rather than the magnet problem.
You should note, last time I looked at Hoovers web site (November 2012) that they were doing a special repair deal- remember it should have 5 year free parts anyway and if over 5 but less than 7 -I think, but you check it!- their charges are, presume still are, £122 one off charge including parts, so if you check as suggested and the motor terminal block for a lose wire- obvious things- but if all appears well it may well be the pc board that has gone after all which would cost you a packet if you bought the board yourself ,i.e. more than the £122- does not make sense? Little in this industry makes sense!! I`ve done my best to shine some light on your problem but I could of course be totally wrong. Fault code 08 was discovered on a previous Hoover machine I encounted some years ago by experimentation- seems that 08 and 09 faults are a little confused based on this. Note… there may be a different type of motor fitted to your machine with a different design of tacho coil fixture so do not leaver anything off you feel should not be leavred off otherwise you`ll break it!!!!e.g the Ce-set motor they also use.January 9, 2013 at 10:38 am #386785Martin

Boy do you ever go on and on Andy! :rolls:
Why the big long monologue, when only a short, simple answer is required?
E09 means that the PCB board has blown the motor triac. So Barndance is likely faced with needing a new PCB and at best a motor repair, at worst a new motor too….the overall conclusion being…..bad news!

Ah, that`s because I`m writing for the public and not engineers. Your information is correct, but I have expanded the posters query in order to demonstrate what I found, on a similar machine, which may help someone else as a pointer and as a pointer only. I do agree it is long winded though but thought it necessary. Have a nice day.

What you found was neither here nor there to the question Andy. Besides, Barndance posted the question 2 WEEKS AGO and no doubt in the meanwhile, especially as no answer was forthcoming at the time, has probably either got it fixed or scrapped it. Going on about tacho’s, Zanussi motors and Hoover extended warranties has no relevance. Just a simple answer to a straightforward question is a far better approach. That gives the postee a better opportunity to investigate the problem further and reply should they wish. As for others in the future being given a chance to read this information should they encounter the problem, having waded through that diatribe, would most likely give up in total confusion.
Help if you must but do us all a favour, stick to the given facts and above all, keep it short!

Good point. Will keep it short in the future, but you have to admit I gave a fuller account than normally is the case. Will take on your point though.
