ParticipantWonder if anyone can help with this.
The filter care light came on and I cleaned out the lint trap and the condenser unit as recommended. I also emptied the water container as well. However, when trying to start it up again the drum won’t turn and after about 10 seconds the Filter Care light starts flashing again.
I’ve taken the back off the machine and removed any fluff, and everywhere else I can get to to remove any further fluff. I’ve also taken off the plastic valve thingy which inserts into the water container and made sure this was free from any obstructions.
The heater works, but the drum won’t turn and the light for filter care just keeps flashing.
It’s only 4 years old so don’t think it should need replacing yet.
Any answers?January 4, 2014 at 3:51 pm #407099kwatt

Can you give us the full model number from the rating plate or, like me, nobody will be able to look it up as Vision HD is just a range with scores of appliances in it?
The serial number is often needed as well, you’ll find that on the rating plate as well.

Apologies. Model No is VHC381/1. SRN is 3110034709350609. Type TCE01.
I should also mention that when I press the start button it hums continually with one click audible.January 4, 2014 at 4:43 pm #407101Martin

If the drum turns after a gentle push then the motor capacitor needs replacing. 😉

Thanks Martin.
The drum did turn manually okay when I tried see if it had just got stuck so it looks like it could be the capacitor then. I didn’t get a wiring diagram with the manual – can you advise where it might be located and would it be easy enough for myself to replace i.e. I’m not too bad at fixing electrical things, but I’m no qualified electrician.January 4, 2014 at 6:03 pm #407103Martin

It’s attached alongside the motor. Replacement rated @ 8mf. 😉

Martin,
I tried manually turning the drum when it was switched on and this got it going so it must be the capacitor. However, I’m totally confused how to get at the motor to replace it.
I thought a side or back panel would come off easily enough, but the back and sides are one complete unit. Does it slide up or something; do I have to take off the front electrical panel and the fan at the back? This seems a bit excessive just to get at the motor?
Any help much appreciated.January 4, 2014 at 9:57 pm #407105mjjuk

Unfortunately you have to strip it down from the front and being the condenser version it is a pain in the arse sorry

Hi,
I’ve finally got time to try and do this today, but I’m still at a loss as to how to get in to the motor to change the capacitor.
I know its been mentioned to strip it down form the font, but can you elaborate on what exactly I need to do. I’ve taken off the control panel and the kick plate, but any other screws I loosen still don’t appear to let me get access.
There are some screws on the base as well, but I’m not sure if these need to be removed.
I’ve been on some websites and there is mention of taking the drum out for some models – would this be the case here?
Any advice much appreciated.Regards

Further update.
Now managed to get some sort of access to the capacitor. Had to take the door off though which then allowed the panel behind it to be unscrewed and given me a small gap to put my arm in to unscrew the capacitor. However, I still think there must be some other way to get at the motor/components as you really can’t do anything else?Anyway, the 7uf capacitor taken out has only 2 terminals on it, but the 8uf one I ordered (see Martin’s post)from this site has 4 terminals. I believe that the 8uf will be okay and give the machine a better kickstart, but I’m now unsure as to which 2 of the 4 terminals I wire up into?
Any tips for this?Regards

Don’t just loosen them!

There maybe 4 terminals but they probably double up. Connect 1 wire to each side of the capacitor

ParticipantHi guys…
I have this same issue with the filter light etc.
I have replaced the capacitor with a new 8uf version but still have the same issue, only now it doesn’t spin after giving a push.
Have a done something wrong or could it be something else?
Cheers in advance. -
