There doesn’t seem nearly enough water getting into the load, although I have confirmed hot and cold water are being drawn.
It doesn’t seem to matter which programme is selected, still not enough water in there.
Can anyone advise on the repair for this?

Where abouts is the level of water in relation to the door seal?

On that model I would say the water should be about an inch below the lip of the drum.

    This article is worth reading.

    In particular this line.

Another important point to remember is that most modern washing machines use much less water than they used to,

    Thanks for the interest.

This isn’t a new machine and I am pretty sure that the water level was much higher previously. On an empty cycle there is about 2cm to 3cm of water visible in the drum, this is barely enough to wet a small wash load, so to answer the question this is about 4 cm below the door seal. Other online troubleshooting articles I have read say check the water pressure, I’ve not not been able to do that but the machine hasn’t been relocated, and then check the inlet valves, which I have replaced. The next suggested steps are to replace the pressure switch and or control board, what do you think?

Is it washing the clothes correctly?

As regards your machine it is classed as a modern machine in terms of water usage levels etc.

Also trying the machine without clothes will lead to a low fill, most modern machines will allow more water in when there is a larger load.

It is rare to actually see the water on the door glass when the drum is static on most machines made in the past five years or so.

Personally I would doubt that there is anything wrong with the machine. Pressure switch related problems often cause overfilling but very rarely under filling.

Whilst the PCB does select the various fill levels for wash & rinse together with any manual override buttons such as extra rinse/half load/super rinse etc it does not control the fill levels in most machines,.

Low water pressure does not cause low fill levels, it generally only causes extended fill times.

If you are finding detergent residues on your clothes then reduce the dosage.

Re: HOOVER washerdryer HW5513M not filling enough

I have recently taken about 30 pence in not-so-small change from the tub drainer, do you think this might have been making the water level artificially high?

In the mean time I’ll see what the results look like with some average loads.

    Thanks for the extended answers.

Coins in the filter should not affect the fill levels, they could prevent the machine from draining correctly.

you may find the machine will fill with more water if it has a larger load or a load of items that are absorbent such as towels.

PS. I extracted £23.33 in change plus 1euro from a single Hotpoint machine last week. 😆

I’m not known as Honest Jim for nothing, I gave every penny back. To be honest I get a perverse satisfaction from showing customers just how careless they are. 😛 😆
