Definitely not a new machine required !!
It sounds more like you are using too much detergent and/or softener to me.
Remove the drawer completly and give it a good clean, paying particular attention to the syphon for the softener.
The ammount of water being used should be correct otherwise the machine wouldn’t work correctly and certainly wouldn’t wash your clothes effectively.

Hiya,
The black gunge you see is bacterial growth as there is no bleaching agents in the softener to combat it and, with it being nice and warm as well as wet, it’s the perfect breeding ground for germs. You can clean it out but it will, most probably, return and there’s no real cure for it.
If you clean it out thoroughly with a bleach/water solution as Dave suggests, especially the syphon nezzle and also the inside of the drawer it will keep it at bay but the soad dispenser area should be cleaned regularly. If you use a 2 in 1 powder, like Bold, it should reduce the problem substantially.
The leak you’re getting is probably down to the syphon being blocked or restriced through a build up of congealed softener and/or bacterial growth.

Hi babe
Aonther thing you can do is run a 90 degree wash at least once a month…even if you don’t have any laundry that will take that temperature – just run it empty with a little detergent. A bleach is chemically formed above 80 degrees in the wash from the detergent which will kill the mould and inhibit further growth, makes the machine smell nice too!
Ohhh…and remember it’s in the interest of detergent manufacturers to recommend using as much of their product as you can 😉 The guidelines given with the product talk about ‘heavily soiled’ and ‘lightly soiled’ then give doseage amounts for each…so how soiled is ‘lightly soiled’ anyway???

KeymasterRe: Hoover Washing machine black slime inside
🙁 My machine has a black slime coating inside the outer drum which is not removed by running at 90c with bleach This smells when the machine is left standing
Has any one a good biocide or remover to correct the problem?January 22, 2005 at 9:46 pm #121530kwatt
KeymasterRoger,
Try Finish dishwasher cleaner on a boil wash. 😉
