I’ve replaced the heater in my washing machine twice in the last year. Today it’s failed again around three months since the last replacement, is this unusual? Each time I just bought the spurious part I was offered, so this time, I will attempt to get original Hoover part….fingers crossed.

to be honest have fitted lots of pattern parts and had little or no problems with heaters

the heater is controlled by the board and it may be the relay on the board sticks every now and then. if this happens the heater is fitted with thermal fuses to stop fire. These will blow if it comes on with no water in the tub meaning a replacement unit

Ah, found the problem, there are spring wires that support the heater element, one had snapped off leaving the other to vibrate against the element eventually breaking through. I’ll replace the element one last time, if it can’t survive without any support ( I’ve removed the remaining wire) then it’ll be a new machine as replacing the wire springs looks impossible…new drum isn’t worth it obvs.

without front support the heater will waggle on spin and hit the drum
