ParticipantHello,
Continuing on from my post on another tread about my Hoovers squeaky drum, I called Hoover to ask about it and they send someone out to check it.
When the service guy came around, he loaded it 3 quarters full and chose a cycle. As it does every time, the drum made an squealing/ratcheting sound as it turned. Next he tried a spin cycle and it continued to make the noise but subsided as soon as it began to spin.
He said that since it didn’t make the sound when it spun that he didn’t think anything was wrong with it. When I asked what he though the sound was he said he didn’t really know but it could be detergent around the baring seal.
Now am I being paranoid or is there actually something wrong with the machine? 😥
Cheers,
Dan

Something else, my partners previous flat they rented included a Servis Washer Dryer that the same sort noise (only difference was that it made it throughout the wash cycle apart form the spin) someone came out to look at it and said the belt was on its way out.
Putting two and two together, would it be safe to say that the Hoover has the same issue?
Cheers

more likely to be the bearing seal.
you would think the engineer would have checked the belt and possibly slack drum pulleyFebruary 8, 2011 at 9:06 pm #343967danielnez1

I’ve had the same person twice now – the first time I called them out he didn’t seem too bothered that after a rather nasty out of balanced spin it had dented the rear panel and a bit concrete off the counterweight had broke off and wedged its self in the drain cover.
I’ve made a video of the drum noise, if anyone wants to look:

I know one thing for sure, its lesson learned for me. 😳

it sounds like there is a bra wire under the drum to me,
have you tried to look down through the holes in the drum shining a torch to see if there is anything there.or its a loose drum pulley.

No bras have been washed in the machine. I have tried to look between the holes with a torch before and I couldn’t see anything.
Could it be possible to remove a paddle to have a better look?
It’s drying at the moment and the sound has subsided.

For a comparison, I’ve also recored what the drum sounds like after the drying cycle, but it is usually the same after a washing cycle as well:

An update, after complaining the engineer came straight back to check the machine. Unfortunately it didn’t make the noise as it was mid way through a cycle.
However, he did take a look inside and took out and re inserted the heater and it seems to be OK now.
It still rattles and shakes during the spin (it is level though) but I suppose beggars can’t be choosers. 🙂

Dan

Correct, but choosers can buy better quality machines in the first place. 😉

Well there is now a new issue with it; on the spin cycle it now makes a new rattling noise. I’ve made another video but it doesn’t capture how loud the noise actually is.

Just noticed that the ratachting sound in the drum has started again 😥 it’s ether callout number 4 or give Currys a ring.

I’ve called them out and they will replace the machine if they find any faults (its just turned 4 months old now).

Another engineer came and it wasn’t in his notes that the machine was to be replaced. After getting in touch with the store, the person who told Hoover Candy that the machine should be replaced said I have to submit in writing that the machine should be replaced to Currys CS 👿
The engineer replaced the heating element as the seal was failing. You can also see where the drum was rubbing against it. Despite replacing the element, the drum is still making the Squeaky/Ratcheting sound and the machine still makes the same rattling noise during its spin as well.
