The machine intermittently refuses to unlock the door. Sometimes it will quietly click and unlock perfectly at the end of the cycle, other occasions it will clunk a few times and then open. Sometimes it clunks 5/6 times and then I turn the dial to off and a minute or so later it quietly clicks and the door can be opened. Three of the last four washes it’s decided it won’t stop clunking and trying to unlock until I switch the damn thing off at the wall, the other one it opened perfectly. I’ve had it 3 years and it’s been doing this intermittently now for 18 months. Any ideas ?

If there is a fault on the motor this can affect the door lock I’m an ex hoover engineer

Can you explain exactly what motor you mean please.

There is only 1 motor fitted on this any machine if your not familiar with what a motor is I think it’s best for you to get someone to look at it

His somwhat enigmatic response actually refers to the main drive motor. Often the electronics can get confused over spurious electrical interference and in this instance could well be the motor. Specifically displaying an electrical short to earth, the carbon brushes worn or its windings shorting.

I hope you now fully understand? 😀

Thanks Martin. I did understand to a point. I was just trying to get him to be more specific. I’m convinced the problem relates to the interlock. Obviously it’s not broken as the problem wouldn’t be intermittent. Do you know whether this model relies on a pressure chamber or a bi metallic strip to engage/disengage the interlock?

It’s a bi-metal device powered via the PCB not the pressure switch.
