Participantdo they still make the supressor capacitor for the spin motor? or are all the ones for sale new old stock
CEF, Farnell, RS didnt know what they were ,i ended up getting one exactly same spec for a hoover junior vac, but spin motor runs slow with no load on it (washing) does this mean its faulty?
the spin drum is off centre to the aperture, the end mount and bearing are good, presume play in that thing at bottom of tank, how do i disassemble this?
looks to be a collar on the shaft, does removing that and aperture plate permit drum to come out through machine top?
sorry for lots of questions but who do you ask? 🙂November 26, 2021 at 9:50 am #479965electrofix
Moderatorsound like you might have hot the end of the road with this as spares can be hard to find now
The supressor has no bearing on the running of the motor. it just supresses interferance. if the motor is running slow then it sound like armature failure and back in the day we could buy and replace them. someone may have a used motor around, i may have somewherethe tube is more of a problem . to get it out undo the allen keys nd pull it out. there is one at the bottom in the pulley and another on a collar below the outer tub to hold the shaft on the rubber mount. if the drum is out of true it would need to be replaced

Participantthanks for the input dave, top man,
i thought there looked to be an allen key in a collar underneath the 3″ dia ish rubber central disc outside the spin tank that must hold in that shaft,
dont think the drums out of true as such, its just not central to the hole but you can pull it back to central, it feels like there is a lot of play allowing it to do this, the bottom rubber mount is good, the bearing had some play but not enough to cause it, but i renewed it anyway, its play inside that black rubber thing i think,
re motor, i had the one off my old one as i kept both (spin and wash) but this packed up too a few months after, the suppressor blew like a firework and i jumped about ten mile
how about a motor rewinder? cant they fix the motor?
i read the other chap with the very old twintub on here, and that they were well made and lasted and nothing as good now, and like him i want to keep using it as any other modern machine will need a night class just to use the thing and of course it will be very hard to fix, never mind it needs plumbing in 🙁
PS ive been drip drying the min washing i can get away with since early sept , lolNovember 28, 2021 at 12:46 pm #479967electrofix

Participantcompliments of the season to all and thanks for the help
there is a T shaped plastic shape thing with what appears to be a bronze bush in, it is free moving about the shaft below the spin tank and looks like it has provision for something to “plug” into it, but nothing appears to be dangling down to attach to it, what is this item ( T shaped thing) and what is its function? dont think my older machine had thisDecember 28, 2021 at 10:51 am #479969electrofix
Moderatorthe unit has a big ball bearing in it
its used on later machines to detect if the can is still turning and stops the lid opening till its stationary
if can is still in motion the ball moves out of the way and a bowden cable stops you opening the lid

Participanti decided to put the “motor just stopped” supressor on the ” supressor blew up” motor to check it, and motor worked a treat, so had a look at the motor it came off, and realised it spun too easily and quietly ( no barely imperceptable drag or barely audible whistle) turns out the brushes looked about 10 thou off the commutator? ring, those spring levers were as good as a mouse trap so marked and took bakelite cap off, carbons seized in with green oxidation and some brown rust! after some struggling with 1/4 MDF strip and mallet they popped out, cleaned everything up, drop of oil on oilite bush and lever springs, put back the hoover junior new old stock supressor and this motor was even better than the other, its off the mark when switch goes like a greyhound as compared to the other motor being another dog, so i took cap off that one and repeated all tasks with same result there too, then went and bought a handfull more new old hoover junior supressors,
they are available from Regam Electric in Leeds 01132 450946, part no 822436, TCC W1349, TXBXD Hoover Junior motor supressor and have the EXACT same spec printed on the can as the old supressor that i have originally on the twin tub, only thing is they have flying leads instead of blades, but i cut some length off them, bared the wire more than reqd to solder so i could put heatsink clips on the supressor side so as to stop heat transfer ( just to be safe, as im not sure if it would hurt) then cut the faulty supressor up to realise the brass blades ( they are 3/16″ wide) and job done, they have some more of these items but when gone thats it so posting this to help others, hope it doesnt break the rules, thanks for all the help and great site, -
