Getting my first dishwasher tmrw. was thinking of using the hot feed from the washer to supply it as my washer only uses the hot feed when it is doing a boil wash which is never as i dont ever do a boil wash. Obviously its one less thing to have to do when connecting it up as the hot feed pipe is already connected, To ensure the dishwasher got hot water i was going to run the hot tap first to ensure that water was hot, this is just next to the kitchen sink and is table top version to on my worktop.

Question is, would you recoomend to connect to hot or cold, manufacter says it would be ok to connect to hot fill but they recomend cold fill. Not sure why really as a dishwasher benefits from having the water hot straight away.

So what do you reckon? Reasons as to your choice too i like to have an explanation to back up my choice.

    Hi Richard,

    Not advisable.

The detergents you use are designed to work on a temperature curve and they won’t work correctly if you use hot water.

If the machine has a side fill chamber you’re wasting your time as the water is stored in that before it goes into the wash cavity and will lose heat.

The fill levels are so low that the water you run off will be less than the machine needs, very wasteful and costly if you’re on a water meter.

If you use tablets they won’t dissolve properly and this can and, probably will, lead to overfoamng on rinse and any fault/damage may not be covered by your warranty.

It’s cheaper to heat the water in the machine than to boil a kettle of water.

There’s probably more but that’ll do for starters to illustrate why it’s not a good plan.

I havent got a warranty anyway as the model is 3yrs old and im buying it as 2nd hand but apparently its hardly been used.

Fingers crossed it works (its a bosch table top, the model SKT 5002) some people mention that the wash pump may be seized if it isnt used regulary? 😕

    Richard, that’s even worse!

A table top will fill with about a litre or so of water and you are going to run off how many litres just to save a few minutes and reduce performance? The savings in electricity are, at best, minimal.

Sorry, but it’s absolutely pointless doing this IMO.
