Sad to hear on local news that Hotpoint are laying off 400 staff next week says to do with to many products being made and not enough being sold. 🙁

You read the ‘Homepage’ then Tony eh? Yes, the writing is on the wall now I’m afraid for many such stories to manifest themselves in the coming months. Dyson is another example and just wait til the Chinese start shipping in the goods. 😯

The Chinese already are shipping in the goods! There’s nothing new there and it will primarily affect the mass-manufacturers methinks who are competing almost solely on price, the niche ones should get off a little lighter.

I think it’s inevitable that Merloni will ultimately stop all uk production, with a 68{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} share of Hotpoint they can do what they like, and their Italian/Belgian/Russian factories are much more economical than the UK operations. Hotpoint lost £10M last year, their Italian masters won’t let that happen for much longer. As for the number of Hotpoint threads on here, considering that Hotpoint is the major (only) white goods manufacturer in the UK, and this site is called UK Whitegoods, call me Mr Picky, seems like a good place to talk about them.
