Its still your pecker thats at fault. You must have bent it out of the way or it is too near the brake drum so that when you release the button after your first press the pecker is not returning to sit at a right angle to the drum.
The grey cable is for the pecker adjustment, it should not touch the brake drum when the machine is stationary, it should sit at least 1mm away from the drum.
The two springs in the picture are fine, the very thin spring goes from the plastic arm and is located up inside the arm itself, there is usually a small hook on the inner alloy collar.
Looking at the middle picture, there is a tiny wheel missing from the end of the white plastic actuating arm, you can see the hole where the pin for the wheel should be.
It looks as though this may have been missing for a while and someone has adjusted the cables to allow for the missing wheel.February 22, 2011 at 10:30 pm #345213supermaticjames

I’ll have at it again tomorrow but it sounds very complicated. Is there any way I can make the spring tighter again as it is quite stretched. It did hook on to the white arm but since it doesnt make it vertical again it just comes off. I never seen a wheel on it either so maybe this was serviced before and it got lost. I hope this isn’t the end after all the work I put into it and it is a pretty rare machine over here.

They will work without the wheel. I may have a small spring lying around in one of my ‘bit boxes’.
I will see what I can find. It does have to be a very fine, weak spring, too short or too strong and it will not operate correctly.
That is not the cause of the lid not opening on the second press though.

Hi Jim,
Yes I have a basic understanding of how it works now upon looking at my diagrams of 1467. The pecker is mean’t to be at 90* from the brake drum when idle. The arm makes the machine turn on and off. I will attempt to re-coil the spring tomorrow. One thing I did notice that I forgot to enquire about was that the brake band sits slightly diagonally across the drum. It still brakes well but I might have to adjust it somehow. I wish my local repairman would get back to me as he would have tons of old parts that I could nab for free LOL. He was more like family friend.

The brake band is normally a little slack, nothing to worry about if it does its job.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. 😉
I have found a tiny spring, if you really need it let me know. 🙂

Thanks for the offer I will try and fix this one first and see how it works. I could try tweezers to squash it together again. I’ll tell you how I get on later. I hope I can get these two machines finished with before my 1467 arrives as that will need loads of attention and a new motor :S

Hi,
Well I’m very happy to announce that I am finally finished with my first two collection pieces! 😀 Their maiden wash is planned to be on Friday. I will benefit from the experience on both of these machines. Hopefully by the middle of March I will have my 1467. 🙂
With some patience I fixed the interlock. First of all I used the spring that was pointlessly hooked onto a metal cable as if it were to hold it up, to substitute for the stretched one and that went well with no defects.
Second of all I sourced and fixed the problem with the lid not opening. Turns out that the “clothes peg” style spring that made the pecker return to its normal state on the pivot after hitting the brake drum, had slackend so after I tightened that and adjusted the cable the lid opened! 😛 Just one question though, one the first press of the button the pecker also operates to turn off the power by lifting the lid and the white arm losing contact etc. Does this normal use wear the pecker as it is only plastic?
Also are the pumps self cleaning as some grit became loose at the bottom of the tub after cleaning and after its first test with water there was a gritty noise from the pump and I turned it by hand feeling something inside but it cleared after the second water test. I thought it ruined my seal but no my sealant worked very well. Over the moon that it doesn’t leak! 😀 The fact that it’s the original pump makes me happy too.

The peckers did wear away but that was caused by people pressing the button and holding it down.
The correct way to use it is a quick press and release then wait for the drum to come to a stop and then press to open.
The pumps will get rid of most of the small bits of rubbish, they don’t need to be self cleaning, they are only supposed to pump water out after all. 😉

The pecker on mine is a little worn but it is working well. The two nuts on the adjuster are 1/8 from the top reflecting this. I very rarely held the button down but it was mainly due to it not being adjusted correctly. It works great now and by the looks of it I might not need to replace it if used correctly. So happy I fixed the pump. Sealant is marvellous stuff! 😀
I’m now on the hunt for two manuals…
Is there any forum on this site where I can put a wanted ad sort of thing?
Thank you for all of your help Jim.

P.S. Does it usually take 10 sec to stop?

All manuals are strictly speaking copyright material. In view of that ukwhitegoods does not condone or undertake the supply of manufacturers service manuals to the public.
There may be sites out there where you can obtain them but this is not one of them. 😉

10 seconds is not bad, a slight adjustment of the brake band may improve that time.

How do I adjust the brake band?
I didn’t mean a wanted ad for a manual I mean’t a wanted ad for machines? I understand the whole copyright on materials thing. 🙂

The adjustment for the brake cable is via the thick black Bowden cable that is close to the movable end of the brake band. There is a large locking nut to free off and then you can adjust the cable end in to bring the brake band closer to the brake drum.
You won’t get many people coming on here looking to sell machines, particularly not the type that you are interested in.
Sadly most of the machines that are scrapped, thrown out or BER by people who frequent ukwg’s are well under 10 years old.

Ok, I’ll try that on Friday morning.
Can I try it anyway? 😕 Maybe an engineer might have something stashed. 😉
