Hotpoint 8326 fride/freezer dead?

Hello,
I have an old but (was) very nice Hotpoint 8326 fridge/freezer. It has just stopped working.
On examination it makes no noise whatsoever, but the inside light still comes on.
I am guessing the compressor but It didnt make any excessive noises before . any other ideas -what to try?
What would be the cost of a compressor/repair? is there anything else?

Its probably only the thermostat open circuit not a expensive repair get a engineer to check it try Repairs@

thanks for the reply, the themostat open circuit you mention –
is that the themostat control switch? ( the bit you turn for the temp)? if so I think I can replace that unit.
