    Help.
My 16 year old Hotpoint 8633 fridge freezer has ice forming under the base – on the outside!
I think it may have been like this for a few years, since every now and then I’ve been mopping up a puddle.
I defrosted, left for a few days and cleaned the door seals (which still seem quite tight when closed. Turned on, but after a few days the ice started forming again.
    Any suggestions?

Yes, unfortunately it’s time to replace it!

The insulation has failed underneath…these particular freezers are known for it…moisture within the insulation conducts the cold through the base creating condensation, which conducts the cold through the base creating more condensation etc etc.
There is no successful cure i’m afraid (it’s impossible to dry the insulation sufficiently and replacing the insulation is messy, impractical and doesn’t really work)

Did you hear that “told you so” from over my shoulder?
Thanks Clive, I suppose after 16 years it’s not unexpected.
I’ll start hunting for a replacement.
