The 2 major issues that effect the spinner from not spinning are: –

1, The top bearing (phospur bronze collar) crudded up and complete removal of spin can & shaft required to sort that. Clean the shaft with emery cloth, smear loads of grease on the shaft and into the bearing collar beneath the tub bellows seal. Refit the spin can and spin it by hand. It should spin nice and freely then at that point prior to re-assembly.

2, The brake release bowden cable should release the brake band once the lid is shut. The spin lid lever and it’s attendant mechanism can be the source of the problem. With the back panel off and lid shut you should see the lid lever lock in a vertical position and force the bowden cable down. Often the lid lever wears or the cable jams through lack of lubrication. So a good dose of 3 in 1 required all round!

The brake band adjustment can also be a minor issue, the adjustment is fine to say the least.

    HTH? 😀

Also make sure those clutch shoes are moving on their pivots properly… They operate using centrifugal force

Well thanks to all who helped.
Finally got back to them and found 4 pop socks wrapped around the spindle and it’s now working again. How easy to get the tub out 😀
Having only worked on Servis twin tubs before it was easy but the Servis would only have stopped with a kingsize quilt and a ball and chain around the shaft (unless the belt broke).
I’m happy and so are a couple of OAPs.
