ParticipantWe have a really old Hotpoint Washing Machine – Model 9506 (i think some places it says it has a W at the end, but on the machine it just says 9506).
The machines been great over the years, except for this door problem. One in a while it always gets stuck, so much so, the handle when you pull it to open doesn’t work, it’ll come outwards but it’ll feel like it’s not doing anything as it’s got no pressure – when it works you can feel it as you need to exert a little more strength in pulling the handle.
When it first happened, the person was desperate for the washing so i tool a long philips screwdriver, used it as a lever and broke the door open thinking we’ll either get a replacement door or a new washer as we were being quoted a very large sum for the fix. But i managed to superglue the broken piece (the part that locks in) back together and it worked. This happened a few more times over the years and simply repeated the process 😳 – silly fix i know, but it seemed to do the trick quickly.
Now the piece seems to be in a state, and one of the screw hole parts broke off aswell meaning it’s incredibly flimsy so i’ll probably have to buy a new part, both the latch and the door that has the screw hole:

http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/product_ … cts_id=490My question though is, why does this happen? It happens after the washing has ended. Is there something i can do to prevent this? Is there something inside that can be replaced that will prevent this?
I want to buy the new parts and i don’t want to have to use the silly breaking method that i’ve used with this old part as i know it’s, well, silly.
Any instructions to fix this issue permanently? Other than this door issue i’ve never had any other problems? What is the correct way of fixing this issue? Remember, this is quite an old Washing Machine.
Heres a picture of what the current latch looks like pre supergluing (it’s in a state):
What is the correct fix so that i don’t have to break the new one?

Usual problem is the motion sensor above the motor pulley. Over the years, the cable linking it to the door lock stretches and the gap above the belt opens, making it more difficult to open the door. More commonly, the suspension on the drum softens and the drum bounces around all over the place. The motion sensor gets smashed into the casing and bends out of alignment, so the “pecker” no longer drops onto the belt properly.
There is a Mk1 + 2 version of the motion sensor. Mk1 is a triangular metal plate clipped to the end of the motor – it gets bent. Mk2 is a plastic triangle on a post on the end of the motor. It gets smashed, the pecker falls off, the spring falls off – all of which stop you opening the door.
Machine not draining will also prevent door being opened due to the pneumatic lock.
Have a look and report back. Stay safe, power off.

Any instructions on how to open this model of the machine? Is the motor located in the back or towards the sides, front?
Also, one thing to note is that whenever i used the brute force manner and broke it, when i superglued everything back on, everything worked as normal until the same thing would happen after a few months or over a year later or so. Does that still indicate that it might be a sensor issue?
The machine is now well over 10 years old i’d say but the problems been around pretty much from the beginning. I’m surprised it’s been going for so long even through my dodgy fixing methods 😛

Take the top off. Motor back right. All pretty obvious when you see it. To open the door from inside, pull the plug and feel down the inside front of the machine. The door lock has two electrical wires attached. When you feel them, lift the body at that point and the door will open.
When these machines were popular, I went to a Hotpoint that wouldn’t open every day without fail. There was never a need to break my way in.

Penguin45.Thanks, i’ll have a look asap 😀
That part i mentioned about it working fine after everythings put back together with the superglue, does it still suggest it might be a sensor issue, or is it more of a case that it has to be checked to be 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure?

Does that mean even after i fix this problem it will reappear? Is there anyway to fix this permanently or did you have to keep going back to the same peoples homes to repair them problem?
