Hotpoint 95360 clicking noise

I’m hopefully being overly compulsive here, with this machine. On my last wash, I heard a clicking noise as the machine was spinning. With the machine off, at just one location of the drum, I could duplicate this click, by turning the drum slightly, back and forth. There was no noise at the other locations. I took the top off, and by turning the pulley at that location, the click became intermittent. I then removed the belt, and there is no noise whatsoever when I spin the drum. When putting the belt back on, the click remained intermittent. I am going to purchase a new belt (labeled Hotpoint 016-2180+02 Rev.6) just to have a spare, but was wondering if this is something I should be concerned about. The click seems to only happen (now occasionally) with the tension of the belt on the drum/pulley….????

Thanks, Dave. The spokes seem to be ok, although I must say I didn’t wiggle them to see if any are about to break. Will check on that. Thanks for the info.

And in thinking about your info, I did notice that when I spun the pulley without the belt on it, the pulley seemed to be a bit ‘warped’, in that it didn’t revolve completely straight…..so maybe that’s a hint that one of the spokes is ready to give up. In continuing to completely refurbish this machine, perhaps now a new pulley is in order. Will check it.

Bingo. As usual, you’re brilliant. There’s a hairline crack in one of the pulley spokes. I’ll get a new one. In the interim, can I use the machine? What happens if the spoke breaks during a wash? The hairline break is just at the beginning of the spoke, above the 30mm nut. I’ll check the shop here to see availability. I have the part number (161228), and might as well order another belt, while I’m at it. I imagine you might think I’m being a bit bizarre, putting all this effort into a 40 year old machine. One of the deterrents to buying a new one, for me, is that you can no longer buy machines with the ‘economy wash’, where the machine takes the hot water out of the cylinder, but forces you to electrically heat water, every time you do a wash…..Anyway, I’ve gone this far with this machine, so might as well keep going, as it’s working great now. It appears that the pulley is not available in the shop here, and I’m getting the ‘part obsolete’ on a couple of other sites. By any chance, do you have any link to someplace where this pulley might still be available??

looks about right
there are only 2 of them from memory and its not diameter its depth one of them is not as deep as the drum rear is at different angle

may have a few around if you get stuck

have a good look at the spokes on yours either as the spoke joins the hub or as it joins the rim

Also have a very careful look at the bearing tube in the plastic drum. had a few of these come loose in the plastic and thats a total scrap job.

Is it correct that the drum pulley on my machine would be the deeper one? I’ve ‘measured’ (without trying to wrestle with the 30mm nut) and come up with a depth of about 2.5” from the bottom of the rim to the bottom of where it would thread into the tub. I see that the shop here has this:

But I’m assuming from the photo, at least, that this is not what I’m looking for, as at least the photo shows this pulley not to be as deep as mine. Is that correct?
And also, if the pulley leg breaks while I’m doing a wash, what happens? Can I keep using the machine until I find a replacement???

LOL…Just ordered the one off of ebay. The guy confirmed that it’s the right part number for my machine. Thanks again for your help.

unless 2 spokes break its unlikely to fail
been to a few of them where the customer had not noticed the problem

Ah, ok, thanks. The crack is only on one of the legs, and it’s more like a hairline fracture. I seriously examined all the others, and could only find the one, so I should be ok until the new pulley comes. Strange how no one seemed to have this pulley, but loads of internet sites had the 30mm pulley nut. Anyway, as ever, thanks for all your help.

its down to the fact the machine went out of manufacture 22 years ago. its only because there were millions of these machines around that some spares are still available
