Greetings. This forum has been really helpful in allowing me to keep my ancient Hotpoint 95360 running. I now have a leak that is coming from the plastic tub seal. Finding the seal was easy. But I’ve been searching for those clips that hold it together for days. There are two kinds…..part #981772 and then the bottom 3 clips are part #168237. I’ve come here as a last resort, as I cannot find them nor can I think of a way to seal the front of the tub to the lager plastic tub, without them. I’m hoping either someone has a source for the clips, or some creative way to bypass them.

I really should proofread. Larger plastic tub. Not lager…..:(

I have found one site that apparently sells the clips: https://www.partmaster.co.uk/drum-clip-front-platetub-standard-type-laundry-9514-9524-9534-9510-9520-9530-9570-95490-9511-95470-95450-95360-95130/product.pl?pid=344384
That is what the clip looks like, but it appears they are selling ONE clip for 17 pounds, which truly is usury.

how many clips do you need as often you can reuse them with no problem

I am currently missing only one along the top, which disappeared the last time I had the machine apart. I was opting to get them in a set. I haven’t taken the machine apart yet, as I am waiting for the seal. I’m actually still able to do laundry. The machine does not leak during fill or wash, but leaks during the spin cycle. I put a large piece of cardboard under the machine, and see that the leak is from the front. I ordered a new seal as the one in the machine is the original one, so I don’t yet know if any of the clips are part of my problem. I also ordered a new door gasket, which hopefully I will not need, as the new ‘style’ looks somewhat different than the original, particularly around the area where the door is attached, .although Hotpoint uses the same part number. I figure I could get creative with that area if I needed to. I do have the all the smaller bottom clips….or at least did, the last time I had the machine apart.. I suppose in my ignorance I thought these might be sold as a set.

Is there no way to edit these posts? I keep making typos and then only seeing them after I impatiently hit ‘enter’.

well often there are 2 missing at the top left and right of the middle but am sure i will have a few knocking around somewhere if needed

if clips are loose you can carefully tweak them a bit with pliers to get them tighter but never need to replace them

is your drum front the metal or the plastic one as the plastic one can puncture

I’m posting on a tablet. Of course, I could just re-read what I’ve typed to make sure it’s what I want to say. Anyway, the drum front of mine is plastic. Hopefully it’s not punctured, although I’ve always wondered whether I put the heating element back into place properly. However, I think if that was what was causing my issue, the water would be coming out further back from under the machine. Hopefully the drum front hasn’t punctured, but I do recall some of my past queries here on this machine, where one of the suspension rods had broken and there was the possibility that the main plastic drum had punctured. There was a mark on the drum, and If I recall correctly, I used some kind of putty that was recommended here, although it turned out that it wasn’t leaking. You probably don’t remember me….I’ve probably just about rebuilt this machine, with valves, hoses, bearings, spider, suspension, etc, all because I’m stubborn and refuse to buy a new machine where I’m compelled to heat the water, rather than using the hot water I have from my cylinder. I see from videos that the model just newer than mine no longer uses those clips (which I find somewhat difficult to install), but I don’t see a way to connect the drum front without them. I never replaced the seal, however, and the last time I had to machine apart, I reinstalled the seal so that the top of it (which was less pressed in) was at the bottom. I’m hoping that this is my issue. Of course, as you are saying, the water is never really splashing around at the top of the drum front, so maybe having all the clips isn’t really necessary.

had holes in the main tubs a few time , some pretty big ones, but with a soldering iron you can plastic weld them back together quite successfully

these machine were good as was the WM series that followed. it was probably the WM6 series which was the best

the next series WMA was not as easy to do but still good. after that we sung down and down

if your stuck for a clip will have a look

Thanks, Dave. It will probably be at least a week or more before I can get to this. I’ve ordered the seal and gasket from UK suppliers, but they won’t ship to Ireland. I have to get these sent to a friend’s address in the North, and then either take a trip up there to get them or have him post them to me. I’ve done plastic welding, but hopefully I won’t need to do this. And it was actually videos on the WM series that showed me what to do with my Hotpoint. Of course now the tubs are welded so that you can’t get to bearings anymore. I’m trying to stay away from a new machine for as long as I can. As always, thanks for your response and advice. Will report back when I get the parts and gumption to tackle this. For the moment, I just make sure my mop is handy….:)

One more question. Or maybe two……My door gasket part (168260) has apparently been changed, even though they are using the same part number. My gasket is completely round and flush with no ridges in it. But the news ones have ridges. I’ve been looking on the internet to see where this part of the gasket goes, but cannot find any explanation for it or why the gasket design was changed. Do you know? The new one looks like this:
    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/186855255816
Also, in just feeling around (as the front of my gasket is actually held on with two plastic pieces that go around the door, rather than a wired thing, I felt a hole in the top (at about 11:00 in my gasket. Do you think that this could be the cause of my leak??
Thank you again for taking the time to respond to my newbie questions.

the ridges at the bottom were meant to strenthen the rubber and stop it sagging at that point

any hole in the gasket will leak. holes higher up only leak on spin

the original gasket part no seems to be
168260 this was changed to 168908. neither are listed anywhere now so if the one you have fits use it. Think there were 2 different gaskets, one for the plastic fron and the other for metal fronted but cant remember

    like this

Thanks. Dave. And thanks for the link. And thanks for your expert info. Everywhere I looked indicated that the original gasket for 168260 was now changed to the ridged gasket, and was still using the same part number. I clicked on your link, and the gasket in the photo looks exactly like my original one. No ridges. And it’s the last one, being sold by the same supplier that sold me the other one, and who I had been in touch with. I am hopeful that my issue is just the hole at the top of the door gasket, although I’ll probably change the seal as well, while I’m in there, particularly as there was some thought that I might not have placed the heating element back into the bracket as I should have, years ago. Maybe. Anyway, you are one of the reasons why I’ve been successful in keeping this machine alive. I’m eternally grateful…grateful enough not to bug you as to how you were able to edit your post…..:)
