Hotpoint 95490 drum direction

Another elderly machine with a problem that I hope the more senior engineer will be able to shed some light upon.

During washing, the drum turns anti clockwise only. During distribution and spin, it turns clockwise. No clockwise action with the drum full of water though. Any ideas?

probably the timer

older machine use a reversing contact driven by the motor on the back of the timer.
when it gets to spin these contacts are not used so machine will turn clockwise

its a simple module with a multiconnector and 2 main terminals and does not reverse the motor its done by the rear timer contacts

Agreed, timer only thing that controls direction, EMW may still have refurbished timers for these, I fitted one about 18 months ago.

Thanks guys – just wanted to double-check that there may not be another cause (other than wiring).

One more request – does anyone have the part number for a new timer? The prices do not look too bad, so it is worth repairing the machine, I think, rather than dumping it.

Listed as obsolete on Partfinder, I will see if I can dig out an old paper manual.

follow the link i posted to the EMW site. its a heck of a lot cheaper and he guarantees them

Two different timers used.
168887 will have the number 904-2199-05 on the timer itself ( most common one)

168481 has 904-2199-04 on the timer body.

Thanks guys. My timer has 904/2199/03 printed on it!! Would the /05 one do? What’s the difference I wonder?

Not without the wiring modification kit which you are unlikely to find now.

See if EMW can supply you a timer with the same identification number as yours.

Thanks so much for looking into this problem in such depth. I took the timer out of the machine last night.
