ParticipantI have a Hotpoint 9555P washing machine (serial No. 55582984) 16 May 1990.
I was using Pgm 01 when the fault occurred. I left it as usual and came back later to find the drum continuously rotating (not in full spin) and a code EE displayed.
I switched off and after a few minutes opened the door and removed the laundry (no water in drum).
Left it 24hrs and pushed in the ON/OFF switch – same EE code displayed (instead of 00 if all is normal), drum rotates continuously and water is pumped in and drained straight out.
Took off the lid to check all connections are sound – everything looks ok.
Tried again – same symptoms.
Tried ringing Hotpoint and they couldn’t give advice on what could be the cause – wants me to call out engineer and pay £98.98 + parts.
Can someone give me an idea what to look for plus, is it worth my looking at downloading the ‘service manual’ for it from the web at $19.99 to help my diagnostics ??
I’ve had a look for a new module (if this is the cause of the problem) for this machine and there doesn’t appear to be any …. have they discontinued this part ?
And, there appears to be two circuit boards – I presume the big one on the wall of the machine is the module but what is the one on the facia ?
Thanks. 😕

A bit odd that as error code EE does not exist for washing machines, it’s a refrigeration error code.
Unless of course part of the display (led) has been damaged and the code isn’t displayed properly.
To help make a decision. the control module (on the side) is now obsolete, as are a few of the spares for this model, although a reconditioned replacement should be available, it may also be the power module at the bottom, hard to tell really, but given that the error code is created by the control module, I would guess the problem lies there.
Please ensure the appliance is unplugged from the wall socket before making any tests etc.
Regards.
Dave.

I concur Dave’s reply. My advice = Sorry but ‘bin it’ time to call it a day and buy a new Bosch OK 😉

KeymasterYeah but if you do go for a Bosch buy one of the better ones, i.e expensive ones, as the word is that a lot of the new range is not that great at all. 😕

😥 that’s a shame – I love my 9555….
re: code – well I use to get CC when it was a bit temperamental (over the years) but this is a first with the EE. (can send photo/mpeg if want..)
well I’ll see if I can get a new/recon. control module – as they say there’s no harm in trying.
Re: MAKES of new ones – I see you favour the Bosch – I was told to go for a Siemens by my local Appliance Spares guy last year … what’s the concensus on them ? Plus, what do you mean by expensive ones ? I’d rather have a idea on Model numbers than pricing – particularly what you can get on the internet/ebay etc….

I have no idea of the current models but apparently the Siemens range, whilst still Bosch/Neff/Siemens/Gaggenau (yes they are all the same company under different brands) are a better made appliance, I’d say look for one that’s actually built in Germany. A lot of the cheaper ones, which tend to be Bosch as I believe that brand is being used for the low to mid-market sector, tend to be Spanish built by a company called Balay IIRC. From what I have been told these are labelled as being “Made In The EU” and not as being built in Germany.
Dave or Don may well be able to point you in the right direction with model numbers either later or in the morning when they read this.

You are clearly not put off by our comments. If you want to get the Module/s (there’s 2) checked out, look at EMW listed on this site (They fix them/test them!)…See Weblinks 😉
Siemens is the parent company of Bosch, so effectively the same series of machines but different badge 😉

Hi
The Siemens range starts with the WXLM146GB, which price wise would compare to the Bosch WFX2867GB which is towards the upper end of Bosch Exxcel range. Bosch have three ranges starting point is Classixx then Exxcel and top of the range Logixx. I always recommend at least an Exxcel machine or higher to my customers. As for Siemans depending on what you are looking for and what budget is available you can go almost go to four figures . Both these two manufacturers have web sites www….appliances.co.uk Or you could consider Miele which IMO is still the no.1 machine on the market, from the outer casing to the construction internally and the life span I know of some of these still working after twenty years use. One way of looking at it is pay approx £300 for new machine lets say you get 8 years life not bad I hear you say, Buy a Miele W526 for approx £670 and with it comes a FREE 5year parts and labour guarantee if you purchase before 30/11/2004 ( typical price £200) so the machine you could say only cost £470 add onto that the potential life span. Even if the technology changes to powder or water for example the Miele is PC updateable as well. So the £300 machine over eight years = £37.50 per year or the Miele inc guarantee comes out about £33.50 year over the potential twenty years. In the long run I know what I would do 😉 .
Regards
Don
