machine fills to the fist click on the pressure switch then stops. and nothing. (hot and cold valves are fine) fill the machine up with a bucket of water (or blow up pressure hose) to make water level up to second click on pressure switch and of it goes.
this only needs to be done on the number 1 wash 95. any clues?.
I take it that 1st click is wash and 2nd click is rinse.

    thanks

No Simon, the Pressure Switch has 2 levels and depend on the use of the “Half-Load” button to determine the option!

My initial conclusion is that the Pressure Switch is faulty :con:

As far as I recall it therefore would make no difference as to which programme you select, so cannot figure at this stage why it will not work on Prog 1 ???

Take a closer look at the Half Load Switch AND Pressure Switch…IMO

Are you sure it’s even reaching the first level ?

I’ve had loads of these where the hot valve coil goes o/c while it’s filling giving those symptoms. Let it cool and it works again.

i agree with dave there – almost certainly hot valve going o/c under load.
used to be very common fault

thank you. will try this. Bit to young to remember hotpoint top loader faults.

    thanks

Not to sure about the hot valve, although it is a very common fault. All the fills on this machine with the exception of the Woollens/No:7 wash are initially hot fill. They only switch to mixed fill if the incoming water is too hot for the selected wash, as sensed by the thermistor.

If the incoming hot temp was not too high then all programmes except No:7 would fill to the correct level if the hot valve is OK through the hot valve only.

The pressure switches do fail on rare occasions and also the fill level switches in the 5/6 gang bank of switches are prone to burning out due to them carrying the heater load.

Strange why it only happens on 95° unless the incoming temp is very high, then a hot valve fault would cause this, but it would have to be dangerously high to allow cold into the 60° fill.
