I have a Hotpoint Aqualtis washing machine which is about 4 years old and does about 7-10 cycles a week. This evening I ran a 90 degree whites and prewash cycle and near the end of the main wash phase I noticed a clunking noise coming from the machine. It sounds almost exactly as if something was knocking against the glass door which was my first thought, but I was pretty sure there was nothing in that would do that. I then ran a 60 degree whites wash which was just a few tea towels and dusters so could be sure there was nothing to hit the glass yet it was still making this clunking noise. 😡 It’s very random only happens when the drum is turning but not when spinning (not that I noticed anyway) a few mins can pass without any noise or it can make several clunks one after the other. Does anybody have any idea what this noise could be? Any help is much appreciated. 😀

It could be a broken drum support spider but that usually makes most noise on spin. Years of constant low temp washes with liquid detergents will cause this type of failure and the Indesit drum spider used on these is very thin.
If you open the door and pull the front lip of the inner drum you can sometimes see or feel it moving up and down inside the outer drum.
Other possible causes could be loose concrete weights or worn or broken suspension springs or suspension units.

Any faults in the drum and you are stuffed, it has the dreaded sealed drum in it.
