ParticipantHi All,
I have a Hotpoint AQM8L 29L (UK)/V Serial Number 106246023*80622910100, that is tripping out the main earth leakage breaker.
As soon as it starts to fill it trips the breaker, but if you set the temp to 0 it will fill and the drum will turn, so I am assuming the heating element is at fault here. the puzzling thing is that it also trips out on tumble dryer when you select heat.
is it a combined element, or do both elements come on, with wash and tumble, or is there a common part that could cause it to trip on both settings?
I cant seem to find an element listed for this machine on the shop, any ideas or suggestions are greatly received.
Many thanks PaulSeptember 29, 2016 at 7:32 am #441369electrofix

its not a combined element
when an element gets switched on the machine draws more current so it could also be the mains supply
first try another plug ( just in case )
then i would (unplug machine ) disconnect both wires off the wash heater, insulate them with electrical tape. then run the machine and see what happensit not a 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} test but if it does not trip its a good indication
also do you use the tumble dryer? as elements dont like not being used and attract moisture from the air. This can cause them to start tripping the mains
hope it helps

Hi Dave,
Thanks for you reply, greatly appreciated.
The supply is fine, I have checked it in another circuit and same thing happens. it will do a wash if you set the temp to 0, it only trips when you turn the temp up, which makes me suspect the element. What confused me was the fact it tripped when I set it to tumble dry. I wondered if the water element comes on with tumble dry element causing it to trip on the tumble setting. I will do as you suggest and disconnect the water element and run it again to see what happens. I still cant seem to find an element listed for this model.

go to the site shop and email the info and they should be able to source it
https://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/
you will need the model and the other numbers which is the commercial code as sometimes there can be more than 1 heater in a range
