Hotpoint Aqualtis washing machine

Hi , is it normal for this washing machine to only have this much water in? ( attached photo) It’s a Hotpoint Aqualtis AQ113F497EUK. The washing comes out smelly and to be honest, the machine has been the worst I’ve ever had.

Due to the manufacturers trying to outdo each other with their ‘green’ credentials, all machines use much less water than years ago. The result is a water efficient machine that leaves your clothes smelly and poorly rinsed.
Using too much detergent, especially liquid detergent and doing nothing but low temperature washes at 40C or less will only make this worse.
