ParticipantMy washing machine is a hotpoint aquarious 1100
It has recently (last 2 or 3 washes) stopped running any water through the soap tray at the top – which means that it doesnt use any of the powder that I put in.
My clothes would turn out nicer if it would use the washing powder! 🙂It used to run water through the tray on the initial fill (i could open the tray and see it/get splashed). Not a drop now though i can hear it filling through elsewhere at the top of the washer.
Is this likely to be as simple as a pipe or something that has got blocked and can anybody suggest what i should do?.
Despite not using any soap it runs through the rest of the cycle OK, and i have done my last wash by pouring a kettle of hot water through the open tray to get the powder in there.
Thanks

Probably the hot water valve has failed? Have you turned the water off and checked to see if the inlet filters are clear? What is the model number of your machine?

Sorry about the model number. didnt realise it wasnt just the obvious one.
WM63P it says inside the door.
any idea how i check the inlet filters?. I assume i have to pull it out and remove the lid? (or is there a cover on the back or something?)
Despite not running water through the tray it still fills up and washes stuff. Do you mean that it could only be running on cold water right now – should the powder tray get run through by hot?
Come to think of it, I did notice that it seemed to take a long time to do my last load which I assume could be because it used cold water and had to heat it?March 9, 2007 at 12:30 am #207015Penguin45

Hmm – my mate Tomarse has a Hotpoint in the corner of his workshop…….
To answer the question – pull machine out, turn off the taps and disconnect the fill hoses. There is a filter mesh in the valve inlets – the hot one is prone to clogging. It can be pulled out for cleaning. Whils the hoses are off, try running them into a bucket to ensure that you have a decent flow. If the plumbing has been done with “self cutting taps”, the hot can clog up and strangle the flow. Assuming a decent flow, the hot valve itself may be faulty. Lid off, test meter, you need 3-4kOhms across the coil when split from the circuit.
Power off……..

Thanks Mr P! I wondered how long i could lurk on your forum before you found me! 🙂
I’ve actually tidied the workshop a bit now and its almost a ‘utility room’ again 😉
I will do as you say and have a go at the filter. The machine is on little 90degree cut off taps so perhaps it is the hot one of them that has clogged.
