ParticipantHi There,
Been here before a few years ago and got really good help. Unfortunately since then I have had to change washing machines completely.
Never really had any problem with the Washing Machine, apart from the usual cold wash residue that smells a bit on the rubber door seal.
Started recently to get a really loud grinding noise, so upon further inspection I found the following:
Some very fine dust on the floor underneath the washing machine. The internal drum moves within the external drum. And a rubbing noise when I turn the inner drum.
I think (but of course I’m asking your professional opinion) that 1 or more of my bearings have gone.
If this is the case then could somebody point me in the right direction for the part I require and possible some instruction on how to do it, and of course how easy it is? Based on a scale that I am quite a good fiddler!
Thanks in advance for you help.

Its a complete drum assembly at about £160.00 bearings are not replaceable on that type of drum.
How old is machine as might be covered under 5 year parts warranty.Washman

The machine must be under 5 years old, I will have a look for the receipt when I get home.
What do I do from there?
Will it still need to be repaired by qualified person?
Thanks

Do you think that’s what it could be though?

From what you describe, yes it is a bearing failure. As it’s a sealed tank there is no option but to replace the complete assembly.
To have the part replaced under warranty yes, you will need to get Hotpoint to send out their own engineer to do it and, you’ll pay £100+ from memory to get it done as that’s the labour charge. And, they will try to sell you onto a repair plan quite aggressively to boot.
