Hotpoint Aquarius DWF35 not heating

Hotpoint Aquarius DWF35 not heating. I’ve had this happen a number of times now. Each time I re-solder a relay on the PCB and it seems to fix the problem for a period. The period is getting shorter now and I would like to replace the relay itself. The markings are AJS3319 10A 125V anyone know of how to get a replacement?

Did the solder fail each time? if not I’d be looking for something else.

Its hard to say, the leg that is bad is the one that connects to the heater itself (i.e. not the 5V coil connections). The board is now looking a bit burnt at this point and the leg of the relay has lost its coating so wont solder properly. Anyway the good news is that I’ve found what appears to be a compatable relay from Maplin and put that in last night. It worked ok (a one off wash was good), but I will wait for a week or so until I get too excited. Thanks Andy

Well after 2 sucessfull washes, the 3rd one failed to heat, so back to square 1. Anyone have any ideas what might cause an intermittent heat related issue? There is a switch above the heater element which I assume needs to be made for the heater to work. I have checked this and it appears to work when manually operated, but hard to test in situ. Any ideas welcome before a visit to the scrap heap (sorry re-cycling centre).

The micro switch on the heater unit closes only when there is sufficient flow of water through the heater. So you may have a twofold problem, insufficient water pressure fed from circulating pump or the heating element itself is knackered. Add to that a suspect PCB and the synopsis isn’t brilliant at this point in time. 😐

Thanks, I think the heater element is OK, I wonder if somethink is preventing the switch from always working – might have one more look over the weekend …..

Just in case anyone can help……
I took the heater assy out, it was quite gunged up, I’ve cleaned it but I also made the mistake of removing the motor that drives a valve selecting the flow into the heater unit. I need to get the motor back on, but have lost the orientation. One half has a gear that operates a micro switch via a profiled outer circumference. The other half is a circucular plate that has holes to select which of the 2 inputs are open or closed. If anyone knows how to align these 2 bits …….

Update:

Upon closer examination, there is a widened tooth on 1 gear and a corresponding wider gap to receive it on the other, so it is possible, tho awkward to realign these 2 parts. When I took another look at the PCB I noticed that the hole that takes one leg of the relay was very damaged. So I have soldered a “thickish” wire directly to the relay leg and connected to a suitabe part of the PCB. Seem to have done the job for the time being. Half a dozen washes without any problems!
