MY hotpoint dishwasher is 10 years old and a few days ago stopped cycling, when it powers on and a cycle is selected it starts to fill as normal and then nothing happens. There is the occasional sound but it won’t progress with a wash.

When it first happened after 15/30 minutes it started to display an error code for flooding so I have tipped and emptied the machine, cleaned out all filters and tried a few other things but nothing has helped.

In between trying various fixes the error code has changed numerous times and now the dishwasher has to run for far longer to display an error code, on last count around 2 hours, the code it is currently displaying is a flashing start/pause light and nothing else.

Does anyone have any ideas? or at least know for sure what the current error code means?

The fact the more than one code has shown makes me think there may be major issues here.

    Thanks

When you say it runs for around two hours, is it actually washing or making the normal circulation sound. The main circulation pump/motor was very flaky on these Indesit built appliances.

No I just mean that it now takes around two hours for an error code to come on now.

For varying langths of time it will make sounds as if it is trying to work but it doesnt actually wash, sometimes the water is hot and sometimes not.

But do you actually hear it washing, are the spray arm’s rotating?

No it isn’t washing, the spray arms don’t rotate or spray.

Almost certainly main motor failure. 🙁

Is that something that I can replace myself or is that an engineer job?

I have no idea of your levels of competence. Not a simple DIY job but given the age of the appliance it may not be cost effective tbh.

OK thanks for your help, do you know roughly how much a new motor costs?

After speaking to Hotpoint they have offered a repair/6month warranty for £20 a month, £120 all in and piece of mind/free repairs for the next six months seems like it may be a fair price.

    Sounds like a fair deal . 🙂
