KeymasterHello,
This is the 2nd time this has happend I was wondering if you had any advice. There are 3 coils at the back of the machine and was wondering if it was anything to do with those or is it just simply a Thermostat issue.
Any advice would be welcome
Thanks in advance
Paul

could be a number of things…is it heating or running cold?…is it making any noise on the drying cycle?…are the clothes coming out wetter than when they went in?

The clothes are not drying I would suppose it is just running cold.
It is definately not making any noise and the clothes are no wetter than they went in.
Thx for your prompt response 🙂

What Clive means is, is the tumble dryer sounding normal, as in it all appears to be working OK ?
Switch t on and after five minutes open the door, if it’s cold then either the thermostats need replacing or the heater, the former is far more likely.
Part number 1701583, which you can get here:

Dave/Clive,
Thx again for the response.
The dryers appears to be fine just the lack of heat.
I will try the thermostats 🙂
Thanks

It is worth mentioning that with this type of dryer it is vital to keep not only the filter but also the heat exchanger as clean as possible. the best way to clean the heat exchanger is with a hosepipe in the garden if you have one. The heat exchanger is the long metal box that you can pull out at the bottom left just above the water container. You should also avoid switching the machine off or stopping it in mid cycle, this can lead to early stat failure. Unless it is an emergency turn the timer control to the ten minute cool period, do not just open the door or stop the machine when it is hot.
Edit. if you intend to change the stats yourself, handle the one with the green spot very carefully, it is the one wrapped in tissue paper. If you press on the base of the stat it may trip and it is a ‘one shot’ device, that is to say once tripped it will not reset.March 21, 2005 at 6:43 pm #129429admin

Hello again,
I swapped the thermostat and this appeard to fix the heat issue. The only problem was I managed to knock one of the coils (the cardboard bit in the middle bent).
Now two questions :
1) Are these easy to replace or am I going to unchanterd waters for my noob approach.
2) Should the coils glow? now this may sound like a simple question of course but I am assuming this is where the heat comes from?.More for my understanding than anything
Thanks
Paul

These heating elements are very delicate. you should not really try to run the dryer with the back panel removed, if you do this the elements will glow because there is no air flow to cool them.Changing this element is not too difficult, however you have to remove the side panel to allow you to change the wiring plug, why they don’t allow enough length to allow the element to be changed without having to do this is beyond me.
Approx cost of this element is £21.00 + vat.
