ParticipantHi,
I’m having a problem with my hotpoint condenser dryer TDC32. On checking my washing to see if it had dried I tried to turn the dryer back on but it would not work, there is power getting to the machine as the water light flickers when turning the timer dial, the water container is empty.
Any help/advice would be gratfully taken.Thank-you

It could be any number of things.
Faulty float switch, door switch, relay, timer or capacitor.
A visual and electrical check of all these components starting with door switch and float switch is required. Unfortunately the float switch is very difficult to access.
Be sure to remove the mains plug if you intend to have a poke around.NB. Unless it is an emergency you should not ‘open the door to check on the washing’ without first turning the control knob to a cold tumble position and then allowing three or four minutes for the elements to cool down.
Constantly stopping the machine mid cycle is a sure fire way to damage the thermostat/safety cut out. :lesson:Jim.

thankyou, I’ll see if any of that info helps.
I didn’t know about stopping the cycle damaging the thermostat, there is no other way to check if the wshing is dry!November 15, 2008 at 11:03 pm #268593iadom

Yes there is, TURN IT TO COLD TUMBLE FOR THREE OR FOUR MINUTES before stopping it.
If you stop the machine mid cycle the heating elements will be glowing red hot with no air being blown from the fan to cool them, this eventually leads to overheating and failure of the safety stat.
It is really better if you just let the machine run its course, experience should allow you to judge the time required with reasonable accuracy.
You don’t stop the washing machine mid cycle to see if it has washed the clothes properly, or in the middle of spin to see if it has spun them enough, thats why they are called ‘automatic’ machines. 😉
