ParticipantI got a hotpoint aquarius tvm570 tumble dyer and when it’s turning clockwise it gets a quiet squeaking sound, but when it turns anticlockwise it gets a loud squeaking sound. So would anyone know what the cause could be and how much roughly it’s going to cost to fix.

Rear bearing failure very common on these, also the brass earthing strip that touches the drum shaft at the back can cause noise.
Bearing kit is not that expensive.
It is possible that your machine does not have the separate, rear drum shaft. If the shaft on your machine is badly damaged then you will need a new inner drum.

Thank you for your reply. Would you know where i can get a bearing kit from as i have checked the shop and my model number don’t show. I have taken a picture of the inside of the drum so i was wondering if you could tell by the picture if tne drum does not have the separate rear drum shaft.

Oh dear, that is a complete drum and shaft assembly (part no. C00268377) I don’t think a drum shaft kit can be bodged to fit that style of drum. 🙁
You will need to check the rear bearing as that could easliy be replaced and, you never know, could cure the problem in the short term anyway.

Thank you for you reply. Before i decide to have ago at fitting the part myself would you know where the best place is to buy the part from and would you know roughly how much an engineer would cost to fit the part. If i do decide to replace the part myself is it just a matter of removing the top and side panels or has the whole back got to come off.

The question still remains :- What is causing the squeak? And that has to be investigated first to establish what part or parts are required. My colleague and I know the most likely area to begin looking hence why the emphasis is directed toward the drum and drum shaft. Over to you now to do the ‘hands on’ to find the source……. 😀

You can also fit the new shaft to the welded drum. You have to drill the heads off the welds from the rear side, you don’t drill through just the heads off and the new shaft bolts on just like the other version.

I removed the brg cover and it was covered in this black dust (maybe carbon) When i get a torx bit to remove the bearing should i remove the whole drum to see what damaged have been caused to the shaft or should i just buy a bearing and hope for the best.

Not carbon dust, just the drum shaft and the bearing wearing away.
If it has a torx screw in it the you need the ‘teardrop’ bearing.
Part number C00142628.
Once removed you will be able to see how bad the damage on the drum shaft is.
