ParticipantI’ve got a Hotpoint Aquarius WD440 W/D where ALL the LEDs flash unexpectedly at switch on for around 30 seconds before the on/ off LED is lit as expected. The machine then operates as expected and completes the selected wash program
There’s a similar situation when drying, where the same LEDs all flash at switch on for 30 secs. The dryer then starts (and dries as normal) but ALL the LED flash very dimly occasionally.
As I say, the machine seems to be functioning correctly (for both washing and drying) but I’d like to know what LEDs are indicating?
Any suggestions?
Thanks

HI, if the machine is working fine when it settles then it is most likely not indicating anything, however, the cause could be one of a few things, first, and cheapest but least likely is loose connections at either end of the connecting cable from the light/control board to the main module at the rear/base,
2nd would be a faulty contol board, misreading the signals from the main board3rd would be the beginnings of a failure of the main module, and, unfortunatly the most expensive part,
If you do a search of hotpoint AND module you will get some idea of the electronic problems with these machines
At the moment I would say use it while it works, and save for the possible bill on the way!

Just a quick update.
The machine finally packed in 2 weeks ago – flashed LEDs 1, 2, 3, and 4 and also the on/off LED and wouldn’t do anythng at all.
Hotpoint engineer came round and concluded it was the control PCB. Unfortunately the one I had is now obsolete so he had to order a new one.
However, that’s not compatible with the existing wiring harnesses (x2), so I needed them too….plus a new fan as well, since the existing (and perfectly working) one wasn’t compatible with the new cabling.
As mentioned on this forum a few times, the parts were all under guarantee, so it was a fixed price (£160) and guaranteed for 1 year.
Took around an hour to fit new parts + wiring and program and test board/ machine.

Participant£160
hows that work then?
and why didnt the hotpoint guy have the new valve & ntc harness with him?
fixed price repairs under 5yrs are supposed to be £99… im presuming you were badgered to death to pay extra to guarantee your machine for 12 months?

I was given two choices by the woman at the end of the Hotpotpoint hotline. I can’t quite remember the full details but the choices were along the lines of:
1) For £99 I could get it fixed with a three month guarantee on the repair.
2) For £160 I could get it fixed with a 1 year guarantee. This covered a recurrence of the existing fault or any other fault which appeared in the year. It also included a free replacement machine if they couldnt fix it.
Both of these options were for labour only, because as you say, parts have a 5 year warranty. So I guess I took out some insurance against another fault (which could go either way given the seemingly questionable quality).
I’d agree that he should have had the parts, but I think the problem was because Hotpoint had obsoleted the control board and he didn’t have a Version2 board and associated extras. It sounded like most folk he saw already had he “upgraded” machine.
Hope that helps.
