ParticipantHi folks
I have searched the forums for help with this particular issue, and although the common reason for my symptoms could be syphoning of waste water from the drain back into the machine, in this case I am confident this is not the cause.
When switched off the washer/dryer machine slowly fills with water. The water looks clean. My immediate thought is a failed or obstructed inlet solenoid valve as I assume these are normally closed when un-energised. However I have been advised by a service engineer that these rarely fail and it is likely a PCB fault. I consider that unlikely. There is no obvious water in the dispenser draw which does, however, puzzle me.
Can anyone offer advice?

Suggest you do not let said service engineer near your machine. 😉
Whilst it is not an every day fault, filling when off through a faulty solenoid valve does happen regularly. It can sometimes fill so slowly that the water trickles down the back of the drawer, or it could be the valve connected to the dryer condensor.
If you are 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} certain it is not back filling from the waste pipe and the machine is isolated from the power but still fills then a faulty valve is the ONLY possible cause.
There are several versions of the WDF740, possibly only one treble fill valve but best if you give us all the numbers from the label inside the door so we could check for you.

Just fitted a new 3 way valve as recommended.
Does anyone know the test mode for this washer/dryer so I can quickly test all three valves rapidly to gain some confidence in operation and leaks?

There isn’t one unless you have a hardware key or an EMIT enabled laptop.

Thanks. I thought there was a test mode accessed by pressing a key combination. Maybe that was on earlier models.

That was on proper Hotpoint machines, not the Indesit tainted stuff. :rolls:

Machine fixed now. Thanks for your help. Now if there was only a way to get it to display the real remaining time for the cycle instead of a work of fiction…
